If Lucy Butler has a script in her hand and a plane ticket in her pocket, she is happy.
Lucy grew up in Southeast Asia, where her parents worked as one of the first volunteers for the Peace Corps. Travel is in her blood and she had been around the world before the age of nine. Lucy has been to Afghanistan and taken a bus over the Khyber pass. She’s been to Srinagar in Kashmir and lived on a boat. If you spend a few moments talking to Lucy, you’ll quickly see that her love for travel, community advocacy and sharing stories of adventure (hers and others) is simply inherent in her, down to the bones.
As a result of her travels, Lucy opened her own travel business, Where On Earth Travel, as she became an expert on understanding how different people travel, which she sees as a form of therapy. Everybody goes to a country to sing a song in a space of their own making.
Lucy’s acting resume is as extensive as her travel experience. While she has been a recurring regular on two different television series, her passion is the stage, in particular, Shakespeare. Lucy is developing a series called The Power of Women’s Will, that focuses on Shakespeare’s heroines, sung and unsung.
Currently Lucy is working on a documentary that focuses on reporters who covered the Vietnam war, and the war in Southeast Asia. She also has a vested interest in Young Adult literature and fantasy having purchased a series of books for development.
Since 1986, Lucy has been working with at risk kids, volunteering at the Children’s Institute International and the Big Sister’s program, and supports young women at risk in the juvenile detention system. Lucy has rescued German Shepherd‘s since the late 80s and was previously involved in the dog show circuit. However, she has since discovered that the movie ‘Best in Show’, is actually an understatement, which explains why she will not be doing that again anytime soon.
With four generations of family in the farming business, Lucy loves gardening and growing her own vegetables and citrus. She finds happiness with her hands in the dirt, planting picking and pruning.
Lucy recently took up tap dancing to fulfill a lifelong dream of dancing on Broadway.
